Double Chalkboard And French Memo Board

It was a busy softball weekend here in Orlando. Even though we didn't win the girls played great! They have had player and coaching changes in the last few weeks so it is going to take a little time to adjust. I'm sure we'll get them next time.

On the project side of things I'm so excited to share a double chalkboard and french memo board created from a twin size mattress frame that was found curbside.

It only needed a little prep work to get started. We did remove all the springs, metal clips and
tan mattress holder from the frame. Then I cleaned the metal and spray painted it with
Krylon Almond Colormaster which was leftover from my Bar Cart.

For the double chalkboards I cut hardboard to approx. 25.5 x 32 inches. Then it was
lightly sanded and painted with chalkboard paint that was rolled on.

Then I just assembled a simple wood frame and stained it.

When it was all dry I screwed it on each end of the mattress frame
creating a space in the middle for the memo board.

For the memo board I cut foam board to size and glued this to the backside of the mattress
holder. Then I screwed a piece of the hard board to cover the foam.

This is a very large and heavy piece, 75 x 39 inches so Mike created a hanging rod.
He first attached 2 pieces of metal strips with holes to each end.
Then we ran a metal rod end to end. He did have to drill
2 holes into the middle piece of the back.

For the memo board I added some paint dry brushed on the mattress holder to give it a little different look.
Then I ran ribbon in a 2 X pattern and attached 2 silver pull knobs that I found in my junk pile.
Then I just framed it out with more ribbon.

The memo board measures 14.5 inches wide and is perfect for pictures, ribbons, mementos and such.

The mattress frame makes a perfect chalk holder.

We left the springs in their natural state vs. painting them.

And the dark stain on the chalkboard frame gives it a nice contrast.

Now that school has started this is the perfect way to organize all the schedules, activities and assignments
that are sure to come your way.

Hoping everyone has had a wonderful start to the school year!!

Enjoy your week.
