Quick and Easy Shabby Shelf

Today is another quick update on a shelf that we found at the Habitat for Humanity Re Store. It was a pretty basic brown wood shelf to start.

I loved the size of it and it had good bones, but I didn't like the open space in the back so I decided to add some scrap boards to the back to fill in the space.
I simply screwed in three boards to the back.

I think it looks much better with the back added and is much more functional.

After some sanding I painted it a light cream color thinking it would distress well. Of course I then decided it would look good in a two tone color theme.

So with a little re-painting and adding a layer of black it turned into a fabulous two tone shelf.

The hooks that were originally on the shelf were wooden pegs. I simply replaced three of them with updated hooks. I did leave two wood peg hooks also, painted black.

It was distressed in some areas to show the wood.

It ended up being a simple project- just repainting and finishing- but the end result looks great.

Plenty of room to display some pretty things and hang your hats as well.

Hoping you enjoyed this little shelf re-do.

Thanks for stopping by.
