Metal Monday # 1- Butterflies

Welcome to my new weekly Monday post all about METAL. This will be a weekly feature highlighting Mike's work created from scrap and recycled metals.

Let's get started:

This piece is a stainless steel paper towel dispenser that was being replaced at Mike's work, or course he brought it home to use. He traced the butterflies from a template he made and then cut them out by hand with a plasma cutter.

This is another piece ready to go with dragonflies and leaves. Excuse the dirt yard and other mess. See the bottle tree in the back round, Mike made this out of re-bar and we both added the blue bottles from Skyy Vodka and Bud Lite Premium. We will be improving the yard in the Spring so stay tuned.

So once the pieces are cut they are welded into beautiful art.

Each piece is unique and one of a kind depending on the materials available. If you notice the leaves are cut differently and no two butterflies turn out exactly alike. Some of these butterflies are from a Chevy Truck bumper that was in a wreck. We are also fortunate to have a great friend that owns an automotive repair shop so Mike gets a lot of materials from him also.

As in the butterflies, these leaves are different also. Some came from the truck bumpers and others from stainless steel refrigerator doors that were being scrapped.

Here is another completed piece that is a little different. The branches on both pieces are chrome metal chair legs. The amount of butterflies added is depending on the size of the piece.

Close- up of the butterflies.

The blue- purple color comes from heating up certain areas with a torch. This adds some patina and great color to the piece.

We hope you enjoyed a little metal with your Monday. As the year progresses we will be incorporating wood with metal on some projects too.

This is a wine rack that Mike will be finishing this week, so check back in for updates.

Have a great week Ya'll,
                                                               Mike and Susan
