Metal Monday # 4- Repurposed Restaurant Table

Today's metal highlight is a high top table re-do.

Once again Mike came across some great materials. The Chili's restaurant by his work did a remodel and of course he was looking around the dumpsters and spotted a few of their tile table tops. After getting permission from the manager he brought two of them home. One was a square shape and the other was rectangular in shape.

Quick and Easy Shabby Shelf

Today is another quick update on a shelf that we found at the Habitat for Humanity Re Store. It was a pretty basic brown wood shelf to start.

I loved the size of it and it had good bones, but I didn't like the open space in the back so I decided to add some scrap boards to the back to fill in the space.
I simply screwed in three boards to the back.

Metal Monday # 3 Flowers

Welcome to our weekly metal post feature. Mike is starting to make rusty flowers for our Spring Garden Shows. YES!! Rust is a good thing in Florida!

Mike did have a little technical difficulty tonight and had to work on his welder.

Love Note Tote

I have had a little wooden crate hanging around for a long time. It was purchased from a local thrift store for a few dollars, just because I knew eventually it would be turned into something cute.

Of course I can't find the before picture, but it was just a basic little crate for a kitchen. It had a very country motif of roosters on it. So it needed an update...

I thought with Valentines upcoming it would be a perfect little tote caddy for love notes and flowers.

Metal Monday # 2 Funky Golfing Grasshopper

It has been a busy week for Mike, lots of cleaning out and throwing out!! His studio is now somewhat walk-able without needing an update on your tetanus shot!!

Yes I know it still looks like there is a lot there, but believe me it is a GREAT improvement. Since he completed some much needed cleaning the past few weeks, Sunday was a good day to be productive and work on a few pieces. With it being 80 degrees plus today- the weather was not to shabby either!!

Chalkboard and Magnet Table Update

It's finally Friday after a long full week back to work. I liked getting an extra day off for the holidays. My first  completed project of the year is a side table re- do into a chalk and magnet table for the kids.

Looking Forward to 2013

I can't believe how much I have learned in the short time I have been writing this blog. Some projects have been completed simply while others have been quite trying at times. In thinking ahead to 2013 I tried to come up with one word for this year to help me stay on track... lately I seem to be all over the place with the things I want to get done.

My word for 2013 is "FOCUS" !!

Since I started this blog I have made many new contacts and have read many blogs. In doing so I think I have found what truly inspires me and now is the perfect time to focus on what I want this blog to become.

My favorite accomplishments so far have revolved around pallets and furniture. I truly love to remake something from old furniture finds. Sometimes even broken pieces of furniture can be transformed into something new and wonderful.  Weather its a simple re-paint or a total de-construction and re- construction  into a new piece it is always fun coming up with the way things can be re-purposed into something new. Pallets are so versatile and the wood can be used in many different ways, either by keeping them complete or breaking apart to use.

So for 2013 these two things will be my FOCUS.

I am always on the lookout for curb finds and cheap buys from thrift stores so now I have a FOCUS on what to look for and hopefully improve my skills in this area of DIY. I can't wait to get started  with new paint products and procedures that I have been reading about.

Of course I live in Florida and the coastal, beachy, relaxed  lifestyle is what truly inspires me. So hopefully I can incorporate this into my future projects.

I am so excited for this year and have a lot of plans made. I hope you check in often to see what we are up to. Starting next week I'm going to start a Monday Metal weekly post to include Mike's awesome artwork and creativity that he completes using metals. This is the first step to being FOCUSED on improvements and time management.

Love this quote and it is another inspiration for this year.

Here's to a great 2013 and being in "FOCUS"!!!!
